Larry David, the co-creator of Seinfeld, plays a lightly fictionalized version of himself as a wealthy, semi-retired writer in Los Angeles whose refusal to observe social niceties turns every errand into a confrontation. Cheryl Hines plays his wife, Jeff Garlin his manager, and Susie Essman his manager's furious wife, with the dialogue largely improvised from David's outlines. The HBO comedy ran twelve seasons between 2000 and 2024, with long gaps between them, and its final episode deliberately echoed the Seinfeld finale.
