Good Will Hunting
1997
Will Hunting (Matt Damon) mops floors at MIT and quietly solves graduate level math problems left on hallway chalkboards. After one run in with the law too many, professor Gerald Lambeau (Stellan Skarsgård) arranges his release on the condition that he study mathematics and sit with a therapist. That therapist, Sean Maguire (Robin Williams), is a widowed community college teacher who refuses to be either charmed or provoked, and their sessions become the spine of the film. Gus Van Sant directed from a screenplay by Damon and Ben Affleck, who also plays Will's best friend Chuckie; the two won the Academy Award for original screenplay and Williams won for supporting actor. Minnie Driver plays Skylar, the student who wants more of Will than he is ready to hand over.
