John G. Avildsen directed Sylvester Stallone's script about a club fighter and part time debt collector in Philadelphia who gets an unrepeatable shot at the heavyweight title. The champion picks him as a publicity stunt, and Rocky decides the only thing worth proving is that he can still be standing at the final bell. Stallone plays Balboa opposite Talia Shire as Adrian, with Burt Young, Burgess Meredith as the gym owner who takes him on, and Carl Weathers as Apollo Creed. It was made for roughly a million dollars and won Best Picture.
