The second Star Wars picture opens with the Rebel Alliance driven off the ice world of Hoth and scattered. Luke Skywalker goes to a swamp planet to train under a Jedi master who has been hiding there for decades, while Han Solo and Leia run for the Millennium Falcon and find no safe harbor waiting anywhere. Irvin Kershner directed from a script George Lucas developed with Leigh Brackett and Lawrence Kasdan, starring Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, and Billy Dee Williams. It ends on the most famous reversal in the franchise and leaves nearly everyone worse off than it found them.
