The Handmaid's Tale

Bruce Miller's adaptation of Margaret Atwood's 1985 novel is set in Gilead, a theocratic regime that has replaced the United States and forces the remaining fertile women into servitude as childbearers for the ruling class. Elisabeth Moss plays June Osborne, a Handmaid assigned to a commander played by Joseph Fiennes and his wife Serena, played by Yvonne Strahovski, and later a leader of the resistance. The Hulu series won the Emmy for Outstanding Drama in its first season, the first streaming show to do so, and concluded with its sixth season in 2025. A sequel series based on Atwood's The Testaments is in production.
