Victor Fleming's Technicolor musical sends a Kansas farm girl over the rainbow, then asks whether anything she finds there beats what she left behind. Judy Garland plays Dorothy, joined on the yellow brick road by Ray Bolger, Jack Haley, and Bert Lahr as a scarecrow, a tin man, and a lion each convinced they are missing something essential. Margaret Hamilton is the Wicked Witch of the West and Frank Morgan is the humbug behind the curtain.
